Questions Orange County homeowners actually search
What is Solar Topper?+
Solar Topper is a licensed C-46 solar installation company based in Lake Forest, California. We design and install rooftop solar for homes and businesses in Orange County and Riverside County. We are not a solar post cap, flagpole light, or truck camper product.
Are you a C-10 electrician?+
No. Solar Topper is a licensed C-46 solar contractor in Lake Forest. C-10 is electrical. Change Solar, a different Lake Forest company, is C-10. We are not that listing. Confirm the class on cslb.ca.gov.
Who installs solar panels in Orange County?+
Solar Topper does — a Lake Forest C-46 crew that designs, permits, installs, and files interconnection for SCE, APU, RPU, or LADWP. Other names you will see in Google include OC Solar (Irvine), Infinity Solar (Orange), G C Electric Solar, Forme Solar, and Sunergy. Compare license, itemized quote, and who actually shows up on the roof—not a wattage slogan.
How much does solar panel installation cost in Orange County?+
EnergySage marketplace medians for Orange County cities have been in the mid-$2s per watt in 2026 for solar-only systems. A typical 8–9 kW array often lands around $17,000–$24,000 before the 30% federal tax credit. Tile roofs, main-panel upgrades, and batteries move the real number. We quote an itemized proposal from your bill and roof—not a flyer price.
Do I need a battery with solar under NEM 3.0?+
Often yes if you want evening savings or backup. Under NEM 3.0, SCE pays much less for midday export than it charges for the 4–9 PM peak. A battery stores your own power for that window and keeps lights on in an outage. Grid-tied panels alone shut off when the grid goes down. Solar Topper does not offer Tesla products at this time. We quote rooftop solar from your bill.
How long does solar installation take in Orange County?+
The roof work is typically 1–3 days. Design is days. City permits and utility interconnection run on their calendars—often several weeks. We file the paperwork and stay on the inspector and utility until Permission to Operate. You are not chasing the building department.
Do you handle permits and SCE interconnection?+
Yes. City permit, inspection, and interconnection are in the scope. We file SCE for most OC cities, APU in Anaheim, RPU in the City of Riverside, and LADWP in Rosemead. We do not paste Edison NEM 3 math onto a municipal-utility address.
Which Orange County solar company has the best reviews?+
Do not take any company’s own ranking on faith. Check Google, Yelp, BBB, and EnergySage on the same day you compare bids. Solar Topper is 4.9★ on Google. Larger Irvine shops may show hundreds of reviews—volume is useful, but read recent install and service comments, not just the star average.
Where can I read Solar Topper reviews?+
Google Business Profile is the live listing — 4.9★. After an install, start at solartopper.com/review. Yelp is the next citation we are claiming so you can check more than one platform, the same way Infinity and OC Solar do. Do not trust a screenshot.
Will solar increase my property taxes?+
California excludes the added value of an active solar energy system from property-tax reassessment for qualifying systems. Confirm your situation with a tax professional. The 30% federal tax credit is separate and claimed on your federal return.
Is Solar Topper a solar post cap or a solar company?+
A solar company. Hardware stores sell solar post caps and flagpole toppers under similar wording, but those products are unrelated. If you searched for Solar Topper because you want rooftop solar installed, you found the right crew.
Is solar still worth it in California in 2026?+
Yes if the design matches your bill. Under NEM 3.0, midday export is worth much less than the 4–9 PM peak, so we size for self-consumption and only add a battery when evening load or backup justifies it. High SCE rates still make a right-sized system pay back. A quote sized from square footage or NEM 2 math does not.
Is the 30% solar tax credit going away in 2026?+
The federal residential solar credit is still the number to confirm with your CPA for the year you place the system in service. Do not sign from a “0 days left” banner. We put current incentive language on the proposal, not in a countdown clock.
What is the 33% rule for solar?+
There is no official 33% solar law in California. People usually mean the federal tax credit—which is 30% of qualified costs, not 33%—or a salesperson’s “you will save a third” pitch. We size from your bill and the utility on the statement, then show cash versus financed on an itemized proposal.
What is the 20% rule for solar panels?+
Homeowners usually mean one of two things. First, roof life: if the roof has roughly 15–20 years left, replace it before or with the array so you are not paying to lift panels twice. Second, the electrical “120% rule” on the main panel—how much solar backfeed the busbar can take before you need a panel upgrade. We check both on the site visit.
Comparing the names on page one?
OC Solar, Infinity, G C Electric Solar, Forme Solar, and Sunergy all show up for “solar installer Orange County.” Use the checklist, then get a Lake Forest quote that matches the utility on your bill. We do not rank ourselves #1.
